Owner's Manual.
For every fifth activation of windshield washer system, headlamps are also
washed if windshield wiper lever is pulled toward steering wheel for at least
1.5 seconds - as long as low beam or high beam headlamps are switched on.
The
headlamp washer system "active time" can be adjusted.
After assembly work or when first operating the headlamp washer system, it must
be ventilated to ensure the lift cylinders and spray nozzles are functioning
correctly.
Malfunction Recognition and Malfunction Indicator:
The Vehicle Electrical System Control Module -J519- is equipped with On Board
Diagnostics (OBD) which assists troubleshooting.
Use the Vehicle Diagnostic
Tester in "Guided Fault Finding".

Lifting Cylinder for Spray Nozzles
Spray Nozzle Holder, Removing and Installing
Caution
Do not remove the spray nozzle lift cylinders by hand.
Depending
on the design, a lift cylinder, which was manually removed, can jam up during
the return stroke.
Do not manually push the lift cylinder back down; this will damage the lift
cylinder.
A jammed lift cylinder will become functional again once it
activated by the system.
The telescopic cylinders come out only with water or air pressure.
Removing
- Switch off the ignition and all electrical consumers and remove the
ignition key.
- Extend the telescopic cylinder by operating the headlamp washer system.
- Remove the cap -1- from the mountings
-arrows- on the spray nozzle holder.
- Lift the retaining hook -arrow- slightly
and remove the spray nozzle holder.
Installing
Note
- Use the catches on the spray nozzle holder to adjust how far the cap of
the spray nozzle is pulled onto the bumper cover.
- The cap will not close if the spray nozzle bracket does not retract far
enough.
- If the spray nozzle bracket moves with too much force, the cap and the
bumper cover will get deformed.
- Push the spray nozzle holder into the lift cylinder until it locks in
place.
- Install the cap on the spray nozzle holder and let the telescopic
cylinder retract.
- Check the cap for proper seating on the bumper cover.
- Adjust the cap if necessary by shifting the spray nozzle holder into a
higher or lower catch on the lift cylinder.
- Bleed the headlamp washer system after completing the assembly work.
- Check the spray nozzles for the headlamp cleaning system and adjust if
necessary.

- Fill the washer fluid reservoir.
- Start the engine.
- Switch the headlamps on.
- Operate headlamp cleaning system several times (3-5 impulses for every 3
second period).
- If necessary, repeat this ventilation procedure until proper functioning
of the lift cylinders and spray nozzles is obtained.
After assembly work or when first operating, the headlamp washer system must
be bled to ensure the lift cylinders and spray nozzles will function correctly.
As an alternative to manually ventilating, the head lamp washer system can be
ventilated using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
