  • Pop Rivet Nut Pliers -VAS5072A-

Driver Front Airbag Crash Sensor -G283-, Removing and Installing

Removing

Note

The Driver Front Airbag Crash Sensor -G283- in installed in the engine compartment above the left longitudinal member.

WARNING

Observe the safety precautions when working on airbags.

  • Disconnect the vehicle battery.
  • Press the connector lock and disconnect the connector -1- from the Driver Front Airbag Crash Sensor -G283--3-.
  • Remove the bolt -2- (6 Nm).

Installing

Note

The Driver Front Airbag Crash Sensor -G283- in installed in the engine compartment above the left longitudinal member.

  • Install in reverse order of removal.
  • Switch the ignition on.

WARNING

Make sure that no persons are in the vehicle.

  • Connect the battery.

Passenger Side Front Airbag Crash Sensor -G284-

Note

The Passenger Side Front Airbag Crash Sensor -G284- in installed in the engine compartment above the right longitudinal member.

WARNING

Observe the safety precautions when working on airbags.

  • Disconnect the vehicle battery.

Removing and installing the Passenger Side Front Airbag Crash Sensor -G284- is identical to removing and installing the Driver Front Airbag Crash Sensor -G283- and the procedure can be derived from this:

  • Driver Front Airbag Crash Sensor -G283-, Removing and Installing.

Driver Side Airbag Crash Sensor -G179-, Removing and Installing

Note

The Driver Side Airbag Crash Sensor -G179- is installed on the front door subframe.

Removing

WARNING

Observe the safety precautions when working on airbags.

  • Disconnect the vehicle battery.
  • Remove driver side front door trim panel.
  • Remove the front door subframe.
  • Drill out the pop rivet -1-.
  • Drill out the pop rivet -2-.
  • Press the connector lock and remove the connector -4- from the Driver Side Airbag Crash Sensor -G179--3-.

Installing

  • Connect the connector -4- to the Driver Side Airbag Crash Sensor -G179--3-.
  • Secure the Driver Side Airbag Crash Sensor -G179- with the pop rivet -2- to the subframe using the Pop Rivet Nut Pliers -VAS5072A-.
  • Secure the Driver Side Airbag Crash Sensor -G179- with the pop rivet -1- to the subframe as described.

  • Installation is performed in reverse order of the removal.
  • Switch the ignition on.

WARNING

Make sure that no persons are in the vehicle.

  • Connect the battery.

Front Passenger Side Airbag Crash Sensor -G180-, Removing and Installing

Note

The Front Passenger Side Airbag Crash Sensor -G180- is installed on the front door subframe.

WARNING

Observe the safety precautions when working on airbags.

  • Disconnect the vehicle battery.
  • Remove passenger side front door trim.
  • Remove the front door subframe.

Removing and installing the Front Passenger Side Airbag Crash Sensor -G180- is identical to removing and installing the Driver Side Airbag Crash Sensor -G179- and the procedure can be derived from this:

  • Driver Side Airbag Crash Sensor -G179-, Removing and Installing.

Driver Side Rear Side Airbag Crash Sensor -G256-, Removing and Installing

Removing

Note

The Driver Side Rear Side Airbag Crash Sensor -G256- is installed on the driver side in front of the rear wheel housing.

WARNING

Observe the safety precautions when working on airbags.

  • Disconnect the vehicle battery.
  • Move the left rear bench seat as far forward as possible.
  • Remove the rear wheel housing trim panel:
    • Without rear side airbag.
    • With rear side airbag.

  • Press the connector lock and remove the connector -1- from the crash sensor -3-.
  • Remove the bolt -2- (6 Nm).

Installing

Note

The Driver Side Rear Side Airbag Crash Sensor -G256- is installed on the driver side in front of the rear wheel housing.

  • Install in reverse order of removal.
  • Switch the ignition on.

WARNING

Make sure that no persons are in the vehicle.

  • Connect the battery.

Passenger Side Rear Side Airbag Crash Sensor -G257-, Removing and Installing

Note

The Passenger Side Rear Side Airbag Crash Sensor -G257- is installed on the front passenger side in front of the rear wheel housing.

Removing and installing the Passenger Side Rear Side Airbag Crash Sensor -G257- is identical to removing and installing the Driver Side Rear Side Airbag Crash Sensor -G256- and the procedure can be derived from this:

  • Driver Side Rear Side Airbag Crash Sensor -G256-, Removing and Installing.

Special Tools

  • Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System -VAS5051 A-
  • Diagnostic cable -VAS5051/1- or -VAS5051/3-
