- Engine and Gearbox Bracket VAS6095A -VAS6095A-
- Engine/Transmission Holder - Seat Repair Fixture -VAS6136-
- Upholstery Clip Pliers -VAG1634-
- Window Release Tool -T10236-
Front Seat Cover and Cushion, Removing and Installing
Note
The following describes removing and installing components on the left seat.
Removing and installing components on the right seat is identical.
WARNING
If the front seat cushion padding on the passenger side is replaced, replace
the Front Passenger Occupant Detection Sensor -G128-. Refer to
→ Chapter "Front Passenger Occupant Detection Sensor, Removing and Installing"or
the passenger occupant detection system in vehicles registered in the USA and
Canada. Refer to
→ Chapter "Passenger Occupant Detection for Front Passenger Airbag Deactivation".
Removing
- Mount the Engine/Transmission Holder - Seat Repair Fixture -VAS6136- on
the Engine and Gearbox Bracket -VAS6095A-.
- Remove the front seat.
- Secure the seat to the Engine/Transmission Holder - Seat Repair Fixture
-VAS6136-.
- Remove the front seat belt latch.
- Remove the front seat belt latch.
- Remove the drawer mount, if equipped.
Passenger Seat without Height Adjustment
- Remove the backrest adjustment wheel.
- Remove the sill-side trim panel.
Passenger Seat with Pass-Through
- Remove the sill-side trim panel.
- Remove the bracket, trim panel, and sill-side.
Front Seats with Manual Height Adjustment
- Remove the backrest adjustment wheel
- Remove the sill-side trim panel
- Remove the bracket, trim panel, and sill-side
Front Seats with Manual Height Adjustment
- Remove the backrest adjustment wheel.
- Remove the sill-side trim panel.
- Remove the bracket, trim panel, and sill-side.
Power Driver Seat
- Remove the sill-side trim panel.
- Remove the bracket, trim panel, and sill-side.
- Disconnect the two backrest motor wiring harnesses on the bottom side of
the seat frame. Detach the wiring harnesses from the seat frame.
All Seats
- Cut the cable tie from the mesh hose cable tie and pull the wiring
harness from the side airbag through it.
Note
On vehicles with a luggage pass-through, it is sufficient to fold the
backrest forward, it does not have to be removed.
- Remove the backrest.
- Loosen the profile -1-,
-2-, -3- and
-4- from the mounts in the seat frame.
- Remove the cover and the cushion from the seat frame.
- Roll the cover upward all around the outer edge.
- Using a small screwdriver, unclip the cover profile
-1- from the mounts -2-
in the cushion.
Note
The cover in the rear area of the seat is secured by upholstery clips; cut
these with a diagonal cutter.
- Remove all the clips from the cover on the cushion.
- Remove the cover -3- from the cushion
-4-.
Installing
- Install in reverse order of removal.
Note
Where necessary, use Upholstery Clip Pliers -VAG1634- to attach the cover to
the cushion.
Front Seat Backrest Cover and Cushion, Removing and Installing
Note
- The following describes removing and installing components on the left
seat. Removing and installing components on the right seat is identical.
- Removing and installing is shown as an example and applies to all
equipment lines.
Removing
- Mount the Engine/Transmission Holder - Seat Repair Fixture -VAS6136- on
the Engine and Gearbox Bracket -VAS6095A-.
- Remove the front seat.
- Secure the seat to the Engine/Transmission Holder - Seat Repair Fixture
-VAS6136-.
- Press the release button if equipped and pull the headrest out of the
backrest.
- Remove the headrest.
- Remove the front seat belt latch.
- Remove the tunnel-side trim panel.
Passenger Seat without Height Adjustment
- Remove the backrest adjustment wheel.
- Remove the sill-side trim panel.
Passenger Seat with Pass-Through
- Remove the sill-side trim panel.
Front Seats with Manual Height Adjustment
- Remove the backrest adjustment wheel.
- Remove the sill-side trim panel.
Power Driver Seat
- Remove the sill-side trim panel.
- Disconnect the two backrest motor wiring harnesses on the bottom side of
the seat frame. Detach the wiring harnesses from the seat frame.
All Seats
- Cut the cable tie from the mesh hose cable tie and pull the wiring
harness from the side airbag through it.
- Remove the backrest.
- Remove the lumbar adjustment lever, if equipped.
- Remove the backrest and folding table, if equipped.
- Release the contact surface -1- from the
mount -2-.
Alternatively the cover can be fastened with a zipper.
- If this is the case the cover can be closed when installing with the
"zipper closure". Refer to the Parts Catalog for the allocation.
- Roll the cover upward.
- On vehicles with heated seats, guide the wiring harness
-1- through the opening in the cushion.
- Cut through the four upholstery clips -arrows-.
- Fold the cover farther up and cut through the next two upholstery clips.
- Remove the right and left clip on the back side of the backrest with
Window Release Tool -T10236--1-.
- Remove the right and left mounting strap -2-
from the backrest frame.
- Fold the cover farther upward and pry the cover profile out of the
mounts in the cushion using a small screwdriver
-arrows-.
- Fold the cover farther upward and loosen the remaining cover mounts from
the cushion.
- Pull the cover over both headrest guides and remove it from the backrest
frame.
- Pull the cushion -1- up over both headrest
guides and remove it from the backrest frame -2-.
Installing
- Install in reverse order of removal.
Passenger Seat with Pass-Through
- When installing the padding on the backrest frame, pay attention to the
cable guide cover.
- The mounting strap on the sill-side may be close only after the seat
heating wiring harness has be installed.
