Required Special Tools and Testing Equipment

  • Torque Wrench 1783 - 2-10Nm -VAG1783-

Front Sill Panels, Removing and Installing

Driver side. Refer to → Chapter "Driver Side Lower A-Pillar Trim, Removing and Installing".

Passenger side. Refer to → Chapter "Front Passenger Side Lower A-Pillar Trim Panel, Removing and Installing".

Rear Sill Panel Trim, Removing and Installing

Note

The following describes the removing and installing on the left side of the vehicle. Removing and installing on the right side of the vehicle is identical.

Removing

  • Remove the rear wheel housing trim panel.
  • Remove the sill panel at the rear, from the catches -arrow A-.
  • Remove the sill panel at the rear, from the catches -arrow A-.

Installing

Note

Before installing, check the mounting elements and replace if necessary.

  • Install in reverse order of removal.
  • Make sure, that the trim is placed in the in the door seal molding.

Rear Wheel Housing Trim, Removing and Installing, without Rear Side Airbag

Note

The following describes the removing and installing on the left side of the vehicle. Removing and installing on the right side of the vehicle is identical.

Removing

  • Move the left rear bench seat as far forward as possible.
  • Remove the button -1-.
  • Loosen the trim out of catches in the wheel housing.

Installing

Note

Before installing, check the mounting elements and replace if necessary.

  • Install in reverse order of removal.
  • Make sure, that the trim is placed in the in the door seal molding.

Rear Wheel Housing Trim Panel, Removing and Installing, with Rear Side Airbag

Note

The following describes the removing and installing on the left side of the vehicle. Removing and installing on the right side of the vehicle is identical.

Removing

WARNING

Follow all safety precautions when working on an airbag.

  • Disconnect the vehicle battery.
  • Move the left rear bench seat as far forward as possible.
  • Remove the airbag emblem -1- and remove the bolt -2- (4.5 Nm).
  • Remove the button -3-.
  • Remove the cap -4- and remove the bolt -5- (4.5 Nm).

  • Loosen the trim out of catches in the wheel housing.

WARNING

Electrostatic discharges can lead to unintended deployment of the airbag. Therefore, the technician must discharge static electricity from the body before disconnecting the ignition wire and ground wire. This is done, for example, by briefly touching the body or the door striker.

  • Press the connector lock and disconnect the wiring harness from the side airbag.
  • Remove the rear side airbag trim panel -1- from the vehicle.

Installing

Note

Before installing, check the mounting elements and replace if necessary.

  • Install in reverse order of removal.

Note

When installing, the airbag emblem must be replaced.

  • Make sure, that the trim is placed in the in the door seal molding.
