Volkswagen Tiguan Service and Repair Manual: Horn

High Tone Horn -H2- and Low Tone Horn -H7-

High Tone Horn -H2- and Low Tone Horn -H7-, Removing and Installing

Special tools and workshop equipment required

  • Torque Wrench 1331 5-50Nm -VAG1331-

The horns are attached on the left side (High Tone Horn -H2-) and right side (Low Tone Horn -H7-) next to the longitudinal members in front of the engine.

Note

  • The High Tone Horn -H2- and the Low Tone Horn -H7- are also activated by the Vehicle Electrical System Control Module -J519-.
  • The procedure for removing and installing is the same for the High Tone Horn -H2- and Low Tone Horn -H7- and is therefore only described for one horn.

Removing

  • Switch off the ignition and all electrical consumers and remove the ignition key.
  • Remove the front bumper cover.
  • Disconnect the connector -1-.
  • Remove the bolt -arrow- and then remove the horn -2- together with the bracket.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

When installing, position the horn so that it does not touch any of the surrounding components.

  • Tighten the bolt -arrow- that attaches the bracket to the longitudinal member to 20- Nm.
High Tone Horn -H2- and Low Tone Horn -H7-, Checking

The horns are attached on the left side (High Tone Horn -H2-) and right side (Low Tone Horn -H7-) next to the longitudinal members in front of the engine.

The horns (High Tone Horn -H2- and Low Tone Horn -H7-) can be checked by the Vehicle Electrical System Control Module -J519- output diagnostic test mode.

Signal Horn Activation -H-

Activation of signal horns occurs via the spring-bearing cover in center of steering wheel. Depending on equipment, the signal horn activation is either a structural component of the steering wheel or integrated in the driver airbag unit and cannot be replaced separately. Replace the driver side airbag unit or the steering wheel if the signal horn activation is faulty.

WARNING

  • Risk of airbag deployment.
  • The airbag unit could deploy if mishandled.
  • Follow the safety precautions when working on the airbag.

  • Check the Signal Horn Activation -H- using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
